"JUST A WEE STORY"

I thought i would tell you a nice story that happended when i was in Sydney. I was in the Town

Hall Train Station in "Sydney" one night with some of the of guys. The great thing about "World Youth Day" is you get to meet people from many diffrent parts of the world and some less fortunate than yourselfs. We ended up speaking to this guy from the "The Soloman island's" which is and island on the Pacific which is always at threat of floods and other enviromental issues. There is was a thing that everyone was doing during the "World Youth Day" was exchange diffrent items from there country. The guy who i met looked pretty cold so has
a token i gave him my "St Andrews Flag" and we were on the train we noticed he put round him to keep warm and he looked really happy and was like i

Christmas in Melbourne

I had quite a bizarre night in "Melbourne" when i was there in July, well i say bizarre it was quite good fun. I met this band in the hostel i was staying, and every month they are invited to play at a Christmas dinner hosted at one of the nearby clubs in St Kilda near to the hostel. So one night i was speaking to them and they needed someone to help them with some Christmas tunes so i stepped in and suddenly i found myself in the middle of July, well there winter, which kept some dignity to it i guess. playing "Fairytale of New York" "Step into Christmas". We did however get to jam out some other tunes. The guys wrote songs and so do i, so we both jammed each others, with great slide guitar work from big Pete. The band sound very much like "Dave Matthews bands" and the "Counting Crowes", two bands I'm very fond of.

IM BACK

hello I'm back from Aussie as you can tell. I had such a wonderful experience in meeting new friends which i truly believe we will be for life and meeting people from all over the world . "The World Youth Day" was such a peaceful, loving and caring event and it was just amazing. I do find it hard to talk about because there is so much i can say and its still quite hard to adjust. Its these kind of events which make you think there is still some happiness in the world and i really believe the youth need to be given some more credit for what they bring to the world. Because if this event is anything to go by we certainly bring our love of fun and our enjoyment of being in each others company. It was a privilege to be a pilgrim from Scotland and of course the world at "World Youth Day" in Sydney 2008. It was a lot of hard work getting over, from doing all the fundraising and all the organising, but doing all the paper work and all of the fundraising it was so worth it and it changed my life in so many ways in which you would not believe. I feel more connected in my faith now. I went there to find myself and i truly believe i did. I love Australia because its a wonderful country and its truly is at the ends of the earth. I would like to thank our youth team how did so so much in getting us over there, we owe them a lot of credit. Chris, Father David, Sr Bernadette, Stacy.

The Songs are answered

Ive noticed something in the last few weeks that songs that I'm very much into are being answered for me. There is a lot of songs which talk about exactly what I've doing in Australia and my time spent with Claire who I'm crazy about and the rest of the "World Youth Day Pilgrims". The song "Caladonia by Dougie Mc Lean i know exactly what that song is talking about and it means so much to me, I've been singing it so many times in the last few weeks in Australia and il play the night before i go home this Monday. Ive got a whole soundtrack to this trip

1. Don't dream its over - Crowded House
2 Better be home soon - Crowded House
3 Friend's will be Friends - Queen
4 Travelling Man - David Mathers
5 Caladonia - Dougie Mc Lean
6 these are the days of our lives - Queen
7 Young Boy- Paul Mc Cartney
8 Real Love/free as a bird - The Beatles
8 Here comes the Sun - The Beatles

LIFE IS TO SHORT

Well what can i say im in aussie and i would like to mention a few music things. There is an album which ive identfied as my travel album and its Elton Johns "Captain and the Kid" album which is awasome and the reason is there is lyrics which i can idenfiy with what ive been doing
in the last few weeks. I also have a song called "Travellin Man", ive almost answered that song in this trip which is a gift to me, and there is a few songs being planned at the moment, i could almost have a concept album in the making. This trip has been amazing for me and its changed my life in many ways you cant even imagine and i dont want to leave here, its that good. Ive found my faith at last and ive found myself in many ways. I think its just the people ive met, some from america, italy, ireland, and of course the aussies. Life is to short to muck about.

"From the Hurdy Gurdy to the Singing Dyson"

This is a blog ive wanted to write for a long time, so here i go. Ive always been intrested by "Buskers" on the streets and ive got some great storys and things ive seen. If you think about it
they have been around since the middle ages and Robin hood Times . You would fine "lute players" playing on the streets of villages and people gathering around to listen to them play. It still carried the poverty level of those days, altough these days its from all kinds of musical backgounds. Its an art form. I was doing some reaserch a few weeks back and there used to be blind "Hurdy Gurdy" men buskers on the streets entertaining the children on the streets, and if you dont know what an hurdy gurdy well its a music instrument which you wind up and it plays the tune and you control it by a leaver, exahusted yet. I ve seen some intresting buskers and its not all music but i saw a guy on an"London Underground" when i was coming from a gig at "Soho" and there is this guy who invented a singing dyson cleaner and its programmed by using "Cubase" and he sings with it and plays the guitar. I thought it was amazing and so funny to see, it was great to speak to him and it turns hes got a license from the "London Transport service" ( Hes been on TV) to do this, so it shows you it is happening and i believe its now a plan to make this a permentant fixture by having music in all undergrounds in London to make people feel relaxed when heading for the train, so im pleased to hear that. There is also the sad note can we get people of the streets and make them into true buskers and instead of them begging for money but help them have goals and play to people on the streets, becasue music can be a true soulful thing to have in your life, there is programes doing this and in Glasgow so its good to know. I do stop and listen to buskers and i do give them change i wish people would more, five minutes thats all it would take. All the famous muscians have all done it, Paul mc cartney, Rod Stewart, Goerge Micheal etc. Buskers can be anything from comics, human statues, poertry even ive seen, thats a good one.

"The Story So Far"

Suspire are from Glasgow, Scotland. They combine elements of seemingly an endless array of influences; layering sound with exciting hooks and uplifting harmonies; making their own brand of modern-rock with melodic sensibilities. Their music has united them with the indie film world, writing for Glasgow film director, Mark Moore. The 'ALL THAT REMAINS' EP is the first self-release from the band, available from independent record stores in and around Glasgow. Fresh tracks are always in the making. The band have been supported in The Herald by Michael MacLennan, receiving a ‘Recommended’ in the Going Out Guide; received praise from Vic Galloway from BBC Radio 1 after performing for him in Edinburgh, and have ongoing support from other industry bodies, including Jim Gellately of XFM Scotland.

" feel a great excitment to be managing this band, as it is my first role as a manager. Im sure
my expreince as a musican and working in labels and varoius other ares of the creative industries will surely keep me on good stead and help to make something happen for this band.
There are great band, great musicanship, great freinds"

The end of the buissnus card

Well this might be a useless blog but i thought id get this theroy of my mind, well probarly not mine but i thought id write a blog on it. I deal with a lot of people in the music industry from managers, Producers, A&R. I meet new people all the time and something ive descoverd not only from myself but from others, people dont give buissnus cards out anymore , they just put a number on there phone or, in there way of making a postive contact, which takes a bit more time than just giving a card out. But i think its easier to do that than just giving a card out that someone might just lose, but there is a 80 percent chance they wont lose it on there phone. I must admit i have started doing that myself than giving a card out. Its now the era of the Digital buissnus card of just simply sending it through your bluetooth device.

Forever alive

Well its been an intresting few weeks. Well one thing is sure i need to drive, im learning but i keep making mistakes and its really getting to me and it shouldnt, because mistakes happen but
its happening all the time, im studying the theory for a target of the end of May to be completed.

Ive started Managing Glasgow band "Suspire" and still doing a bit of scouting for Emi Records up here in scotland.

I had a cracking day on the hills on Thursday with a few mates up in the Bridge
of Orchy which is not far from Glen Coe. It was probarly the best day ive had on the lovely hills
of Scotland. I even got sunburnt even with the use of sun cream it still didn't make a diffrence. We climbed Beinn Achaladair and Beinn a' Chreachain. The best bit of the hill is coming off
Beinn a' Chreachain and there is a lovely lochan with the snow at the col of the mountain shining over it and with the sun, it was just a great sight to see.

I went away with the 30th Scout troop to "Glen Kin" a place which im sorry to say is being sold. Its a converted barn and house restorted into a great bunkhouse. its just on the outskirts of Dunoon in the forest. It was a cracking weekend of drinking, walking, playing football with the kids, Virtuoso gutiar playing. There was one funny moment when Chris,Paul, Big Jim, burnt Ross's new Ordance survey map driectly on the 6 figure of Milport, so we asked him to find it and you should've have seen the look and laughter.
"A Classic"

The making of the Ep is taken a break so i can do some more writing and working with the band. The Glasgow composer Fraser Purdie and myself are going to work on some orchestrations for the peices later on in the year.

Here is a track list at the moment ( not in order of track list)

"Forever alive"

"travellin man"

"The Place i Belong" (Still being finished)

Classical all the way

The power of classical music is something ive been exploring since school when i used to study
peices of music by diffrent composers and inditfy certain concepts. I loved that part of the whole school expreince and it has helped listen to music in a diffrent way. There is certain composers to me that contribute to this and the one i can listen with pleasure is Goerge Fredric Handel. I know im talking about him a lot in these blogs, but his music does lift me up and is so unique and wonderful. I'm also in debt to Radio 3 and Classic Fm, i was in the Gym the other day and certain peices does make me more confident in the gym. Im a fan of indie all other music, but there is something so great in hearing an orchestra play and ive been in that situation. In a lot british peoples minds classical muisc is boring but you have to really get into the music and i can see why they think that because i do think there is some classical muisc which doesent work. There is certain peices of music that to me works like Handels "Music for the royal fireworks" and Beathoven's nineth sythmony.

LONDON AGAIN

I’ve had an interesting last few weeks. My application to join the Childline team in
Glasgow is in the post, but im still job hunting, few things in the pipeline I hope.
I was down in London from Tuesday and arrived back today. I was down meeting
my boss at Emi which was only for 5 minutes, i wouldn’t say my journey was a waste of
time because I like London and got to see new parts. I arrived in the afternoon on Tuesday, so I was pretty tired, did some music industry stuff and then went down
for dinner which was a nice plate of fish and chips. The hotel was a "Travel Lodge" so you get what you get. The room was pretty simple and was a bit dirty, oh well ive had worst. But
its all part of the fun. I was going to a gig that night in “SOHO”, it was a band called
"Broken Records" from "Edinburgh", and it was there I met Jimmy from "Parlaphone Records". The band were great, really good, although I don’t like Soho it’s a very
Feisty area, it being the red light district of London, so not my scene at all. After I
decided to go up to a great pub I found the last time I was here on "Piccadilly square"
"The Cambridge". Had a great pint of "Timothy Landford Ale", one of the best English
Ales beside "London Pride" which wasn’t on tap at the time. From there I went and
Got a midnight snack, sausage and chips. Its so dam expensive in London. I was
Charged 3 60 for a pint in the gig venue, wont be going there again. I went back to
The hotel and planned out my intenary for the next day.

DAY 2

Woke up pretty late about 11 which wasn’t planned because I felt a bit unwell, sorry
Sympanthy needed here right now, no ok. So got on the underground down to "Green park" just beside "Buckingham Palace". A great walk was just what I needed, fresh air
brilliant. The last time I came I didn’t get a chance to go into "Westminster Abbey"
So I managed to get a ticket, and found my self in this great abbey, well more
Like a museum of memorials and graves of famous people from royalty, entertainment, Politcans. I did have a strange feeling it was kind unusual, I wouldn’t
Say morbid but it was as if there was a ghost feeling, maybe im going mad, I don’t know, you judge. I wanted to see certain memorials like "Handel" who was in the
Area known as "Poets corner" which was very charming. I heard during the early
Years of the abbey It was a real privilege and not something that just happended to be buried in the church. An hour later I made my way over "Westmister Bridge" to "The Southbank" to see what was cooking over there. It is a very arty place, full of culture of human monuments, musicians.
From there I went back over the Bridge and walked up past the parliament. The Budget had just been announced so there were thousands of BBC reporters. I find
Politicians very crazy and you can always tell who they are. I went back up "Victoria Street"
and wanted to sit down so found one of the pubs I was in before. It was the "Bag o Nails" so I had a pint of "Bombargder" another great ale,. I should really writer a blog
on real ale, although I love it I don’t drink a lot of it, its better that way. I wanted to see the "Royal Albert Hall" so walked back up to "Buckingham Palace" and walked through
"Hyde Park" which is a great park, very quiet but a long walk but I like walking so
I found it great, so I walked up and there it is “The Great hall of Albert”, that’s a "Michael Palin" parody. From there I jumped on the tube which the tunnel reading to it
Went for miles, "who needs the gym when yourve got London Undergrounds Tunnels".
I jumped on the tube up to "Kings cross" and went from there up to find some food, so I stumbled on a pub called "Lucas pub" which I think was the only decent pub in the area
So I had fish and chips again and this time it was better. I had a lovely pint of "Old Speckled hen"" a strong ale but nice. I then back to the hotel and done some music stuff again, so I

PS full time job at last hopefully, find out tomorrow

Fame is but a fruit tree so very unsung"

My love of Nick Drakes Music began when i heard "Pink Moon" on the Radio. I bought a Cd in Manchester called "A Tresuary" which is what Nick Drake is. His songwriting ability was so far advanced and his voice wasnt the kind of voice you would think would come from a white man, it was more of black voice, which made it even more special to listen, as im a massive fan of "American Black music". Nick Drake came out of a the folk revolucion which is funnily known as the Quiet revloution. He is up in legend with the likes of "Sandy Denny" "Bert Jansh" "John Martyn" "Incredable String Band". His album "Pink Moon" is my all time favourate of his. Some of the songs to me are full of emotion and as i write songs as well i can see where he is going with the songs, there is almost hidden messages of Help and anger. This man who was very quiet and was very much hurting inside which was probarly to play a big part in his sudden death at a very young age. I love his music, its poetry. He was the "William Wondsworth" of music.

David Mathers

THE BIG SMOKE

My first trip to "London" wasn't for Music industry reason's but to kick off my trip around Europe for four weeks. I had never been to London, so it was weird being in a new city which i had only ever heard about and seen on TV. I'm a massive music fan so being London was a real thrill. So when i got off the flight from "Heathrow" i had to figure out where to go, as i was prepared with a Map, i just took it easy, and was in no rush. But When i got off the train at "Paddington" i was a bit confused by the underground system, i don't think people in "London" have got it yet, every citzen always has a map. I made a promise to never ask becasue i dont want to be a tourist, but in some occasions i had to, due to the fact id been up since 4 that morning to catch a plane, so i was very fragile. I always felt i know a lot about London due to the fact most of the the bands i love come from London. I'm a big fan of "Only fools and Horses" so i guess i got know all the places that Del and his sibling Rodney flogged all the gear, one leggeded turkeys, turkish raincoats, etc, places like "Lambeth, Clapham" . The first night in London i was pretty tired but i managed a few beers and i went to see Spamalot, "The Monty Phython Musical", with its full English humor and whit its surely a great night out. The next day i decided to tour the city and discover certain places i wanted to see, so i set out with my map and toured, not before i had my continental breakfest, Londons such a lively city and so big its impossible to see everything, so i tryed my best to see the important landmarks. I started at Buckingham palace, which wasn't far from where i was staying in Victoria. I just decided to walk everywhere, i thought i would enjoy it more, and i did, its the best way to see London and you get to know it better, i then found my self in the most expensive part of London, "Mayfiar" which has still got a lot of its "Elizabethan" look to it, as it was the home to higher class in London during that period, still is, anyway im rambling on. I wanted to see a museum up here called "Handel house museum", which is the house and a museum dedicated to the life and works of "Goerge Fredric Handel", the German Composer, who spent most of his life in London. In the last few years they have converted it in to a musem. It was a great vist, something i won't forget, I've probarly mentioned it in previous blogs but when i enterded his room id did get real feeling of emotion and a great pleasure to be in the place where most of his great peices where written. The house next door was lived in by Jimi Hendrix during the 1960s so there is a feeling of privedge being in the area where two great musicans lived. I was also planning to go up to "Abbey Road" where the famous studios are, where "The Beatles" recorded most of there work. It was a long walk, but it was worth it f your a Beatles fan. I found myself on "Baker Street" where the Beatles played there famous Rooftop gig on the "Savile Row". The Abbey road area is very quiet, so it was nice to be in a quiet area. Its a place full of celebritys, Paul Mc Cartney, Kate Moss etc. This was the iceing on the cake of the week. If your a Beatle fan the walk is worth it, or get a bus, but where is the fun in that. So from there i went down to "Westminster" to see the "Abbey","thames", etc. "The Westmister Bridge" is full of little tables and people selling things like candy floss. I dont know what i eat, but i think it was Nuts with sugur in them, but they were outstanding. I wanted to see the picturegallery so i went in for ten minutes before it closed. It was now the evening so it was dinner time.before that i went to Mass at the "Westminster Catherdal" which is something i will never forget. I was now thinking of my tummy. So i decided i wanted a "Traditonal English meal", so i founda pub near "Buckingham Palace" called the "Bag o Nails", great english phrase. So i had the fish chips and soop which was outstanding and had a few pints of "Old Speckled Hen" a great "Real ale". I then headed back up to the hotel, not before stopping at pubs for a few beers, the hotel had a bar as well so it was ideal. So there you go my first time in London, role on the next

IPOD GONE GONE

My life with my Ipod has ended for the moment. My ipod for some reason wont work, i wasbacking up my songs from ipod onto a program on my laptop and for some reason the ipod wontwork now and it wont reset, so a local computer tech is having a look at it, but isnt looking good, and if that wasnt enough my computer is getting fixed the now, and means all the stuff will beswiped and inculding my 5,000 songs on my Itunes. So looks like its back to square one. Its a pity becasue a lot of the albums are from the Libaray rental service. There is this weeks nightmare.

My life with The Beatles

My passion for the Beatles started when i was young growing in the dark corners of Paisley. My mum and dad had a great Record Collection and i remember there was a red and blue album in the pile, which was the Greatist hits albums by The Beatles which i still have. This was my first taste of the Beatles. My Dad was the one who brought me up to like them and i started to get into there songs a bit more. The song which i think got me hooked was "She loves you", one of the biggest selling singles to date. The memories will stay with me forever. The Beatles have a gift to change peoples life, i cant understand why people hate them. You have to get right into the heart of the songs which is what ive done through writing my self and playing guitar etc. I also remember seeing Help! the Beatles second film made in 1965 just after a Hard Days Nights another grear 60s classic. I think i saw the film on sunday afternoon during 1991. My dad brought me up with the 60s and 70s comedy classics which is another passion of mine today. Through years ive grown to be a bigger fan of the Beatles and feel i know
more about them than ever, through there lives, music, concerts, technology. There songwriting abilty is the greatist ever. The emortal genius of Lennon/mc Cartney was one the biggest partnerships in music history, becasue we can think of others like, Tapuin/John, Rice/webber
but the greatist is Lennon/Mc Cartney. Through the years i developed my record collection, and started to buy The Beatle albums indivually. I think abbey road was the first one i bought and so on. I also started to buy books and dvds, with one being the Anthology which was broadcasted in 1994 and 1995 and indepth look the lifes of The Beatles, told by the them. I can remember it being a sunday night and everyweek the BBC would show another eposide, it was great. My biggest thrill was that the recorded new tracks with John lennons voice which was really emotional and must have been hard. The songs "Real love" and "Free as a bird" are great tracks by "John lennon", who worte them during his break from the industry in the 70s. There is certian songs which i indenfy with my own life, like "Yesterday" which i think is an anthem to anyone who has lost anyone close. During my stuides on the music indusrty my case study is always on The Beatles and i relate to them always.

"Its not how you fall, its where you land"

Well, what a weekend. I was up north with a few mates doing some hillwalking, but it didnt go without a few hurdles along the way, but il get to that in a minute.
Arrived quite late, got a fire going, had some food, beer, played a bit of guitar etc.
then hit the hay for mornings walk. The Munro we planned to walk was
was Ben Sgulaird, so get up early, breakfest. The hill was quite a cheeky one, just
the way the path goes, oh yeh i had a near miss on the hill, lost my balance on the snow and fell, luckily ross grabded me, but it was scary. We got off the hill pretty late and had a long walk back to the car. My legs by this time were finished and worn out. We stopped off for a pint at the kingshouse hotel, Scotlands oldest inn, its a great pub, had a pint of lattuide a really nice ale, a fitting name for the area. Got back to the campsite, i attempted to light a fire, which failed . When i was collecting firewood, a nail went up a part of shoe and hurt my foot, which resulted me getting a x- ray back in Glasgow. A another fellow hillwalker turned up stephen. I was being slagged for the amount of food i bought, but i stand by the amount, so there you go. I couldnt do the walk the next day due to my foot, so i just hanged around the campsite, palyed the guitar and wrote some songs etc. I went on my bike for a while and took a ride down the glen.

The area of glen coe and glen etive is a great place, a very peaceful place .

its filled with legend and stories of love and war.

salt and vinegar versus salt and sauce.

Well another day, long nights, cold. Getting ready to go up north at the weekend with a few mates, drinking beer, guitars, hillwalking, cycling etc etc

Still writing and producing music for an upcoming EP.

In edinburgh seeing a band called Broken Records last night, it was at a venue called "The Wee Red Bar", part of the Royal Art school. A great band, very melodic, a cross between Nick Cave and Fairport convention, a very unusual mix but it works, seeing them in London, while im down there in a few weeks.

I really like edinburgh, but i was saying last night to a taxi driver which i got from queen street station in Glasgow to take me home, that when you go abroad and people ask you where your from and you say Scotland, they always say edinburgh, not Glasgow and well in away i can see why. I think the capital still has bit of the old school image well in the old town anyway, becasue of the cobbled Streets, the old dark lanes , the old pubs selling the best ale in town, But Glasgow still has that as well. though. It always makes me laugh, this idea of the battle of the cities. its like back to the days of medivial and all that jazz, with exception we dont all carry sords and have big beards.

inspiration and writers block.

Still hunting for a job for during the day, still keeping busy though, writing and producing
an ep at the moment in my digital home studio, probarly out in the next few months.
For me the writing process always changes. I never try to write a song, but i do look for infulence and thats where the writing to comes from. My songwriting infulences come from the likes of The Beatles, The waterboys etc.
But i do suffer from writers block but having the musical ability is very helpful, it means i can save that melody

I'm also very intrested in poetry and books like "Stephen Frys" poerty book are very helpful and very intresting. Something that always makes me feel thats another reason to like
Paul Mc Cartney and the Beatles that most of the songs written up the early days were written years before, a fact the Lennon/Cartney probalry wrote about 300 songs altogther. And to really be honest im sick of the way that people talk about Paul Mc Cartney and the Beatles in general. He doesnt get enough respect for what he has done. People just read the Sun to much and read
into it. They gave us songs which have become Brittish instuitions and they are Brittish instituions in there own right. There the reason i do what i do and there music has even got me out of situtions and made me pass certain essays in college and also a lot of there songs reflect all
our lives.

Im also very keen in the study of popular music and go back to the days of Baroque and in paticualar Handel. His wonderful music with its mathmatical concepts and soul is just magical. Ive been to his House in London where he lived most of his later life in, which is now a museum. As i enter his bedroom with the guide i start to feel a very emotional feeling, because its still the old floor and most of the room is from the 17 centuary.

"Jimi Hendrix" lived next door to handels house in London. great place to go"

so far in my life

Well, before i start my blog i better tell you a bit about me.
I'm a muscian and just recently doing one of my favourate things A&R which is signing bands
well im not there yet, well im scouting for Parlaphone records home of The Beatles, my
favourate band. Queen etc. Been heavenly invlvoved in the music industry, activelly involved in
set up of two Labels. played in bands, radio, marketing, solo, also a songwriter/compostion, and do a bit production as well etc etc . and im only 21. its a pleasure to be involved in music, its basically my life.
